Born
and raised in New York City,
Josephine Ester
Mentzer first took interest into her Uncle’s chemist, where she saw him mixing
up lotions and creams. This inspired her to start selling beauty products.
After marrying Joseph Lauder, in 1935 she launched Estee Lauder, a pioneering
cosmetics company. She then obtained her own counter space in the legendary
department store Saks Fifth Avenue
in which she could sell her skincare creams to the public, with a personal
selling approach. The range proved to be a big hit. She even brought out a
Fragrance called Youth Dew that doubled as bath oil. Today, Estee Lauder
retails in over 120 countries worldwide. With an uncompromising belief in
her products and the beauty in all women, Estee Lauder is a respected household
name.
